It’s a new year, and if you’re like millions of people worldwide, you made at least one or two resolutions for 2023. People are known to vow to make amends, find a new job, get serious about a relationship, and so much more, but the one thing that typically leads the pack is being more health-conscious.
However, boosting your wellness is about more than just exercising and opting for healthy snack options, and in this article, you’ll find some tips that may help you keep your resolution this year.
1. Reduce Stress
Stress can impact your health and well-being more than virtually anything else. So, to facilitate a healthier year, you need to work on avoiding stressors in your life. What’s causing your stress/anxiety/depression? Is it your job? What is the state of your finances? Family or relationship problems? Whatever it is, plan to reduce or even eliminate that stress.
Of course, there’s no magic way to entirely banish stress from your life. Still, there are wearable devices that can improve your body’s resilience to stress, and above all else, don’t be afraid to seek professional help if it becomes unmanageable.
2. Increase Sleep
You’ve heard it a billion times but likely don’t do it regularly, and the fact is, you do indeed need at least 8 hours of sleep each night. Learning how to sleep better is not only good for your mental health but your physical health too.
The question is, “how?”
First, rethink your bedroom. If you’re constantly flipping your pillow to get comfortable, replace it with a shredded memory foam pillow. Is your bedroom nice and cool? According to the Sleep Foundation, most experts recommend setting the thermostat “between 60° to 67° Fahrenheit for the most comfortable sleep.”
Lastly, designate your bedroom as off-limits to anything other than sleep and intimacy. Don’t lay in bed with your laptop, smartphone, or tablet (they can significantly affect your sleep on their own, and you may want a blue light screen protector no matter what), and you shouldn’t even read in bed! If possible, separate your bedroom from your office/tv watching space; having your room dedicated solely for sleeping might help you unwind in ways you didn’t think were possible. Training your mind and body to start the sleep process as soon as you lay down can significantly increase your ability to fall asleep fast.
3. Vitamins & Supplements
Even if you’re eating decently and exercising regularly, there’s a good chance that you’re not getting enough essential nutrients. You may take vitamins for hair growth or other supplements, but you should speak to your medical provider to find out exactly what you should and shouldn’t take.
4. Eliminate Nicotine
While it may not have been on your resolution list this year, you must stop smoking/vaping/chewing tobacco. We all know how detrimental it is to our health, and as such, we’d be remiss if we didn’t include it in this list of tips.
You must cease using tobacco/nicotine products to boost your wellness this year. Some nicotine detox supplements, patches, and even therapists can help with this endeavor, regardless of your ingestion method (cigarettes/snuff/etc.). However, whether you utilize them or undertake the task as a solo adventure, you must focus on quitting this year.
Living healthier takes a little effort to start, but before you know it, it’ll be routine and second nature. Incorporate the above four tips into your exercise and diet plans, and you’ll have a better chance of reaching your wellness goals.
