Malaga Airport is the main gateway to the larger areas of the Costa del Sol and Andalusia. For many, rental car is the most convenient way to get around. In this post you will find a guide to collecting car rental at Malaga Airport. The blog also has a guide for returning your rent a car Malaga.
Malaga Airport is Andalusia’s largest airport and one of Spain’s busiest airports. The airport is conveniently located for the majority of visitors who fly to the airport in search of beaches along Costa del Sol. The city of Malaga is just 10 km northeast of the airport. Popular beach resorts such as Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Marbella are 7 km, 23 km and 50 km away, respectively.
Malaga Airport: a little old and new
There are three terminals at the airport, but only Terminal 2 (T2) and the relatively new Terminal 3 (T3) are actually in operation. Also, because both are interconnected, you may not notice that they intersect from one to the other. However, the easiest way to tell is to look at the building materials. T2 is all cream and stone, and T3 is all silver and metal.
The majority of airlines use T3. Currently, only low-cost carriers Ryanair and easyJet use T2. Generally, the arrival level is at the ground level and the departure level is at the first level. It is very easy to cross between the two terminals at both levels.
Collect rental cars at Malaga Airport
Not surprisingly, Malaga Airport has a wealth of car rental options. The desk is easy to find and it will be difficult to escape from the signs that indicate its direction. They are in the baggage collection between baggage belts 28 and 31. Below is a list of car rental suppliers at the airport (actually there is a desk inside the terminal).
Once you have received the keys and completed the required paperwork, you can get off the ramp one level below in front of the baggage claim belt 28 to access the parking lot. When you get off, exit the terminal and cross the road to the P1 and P2 parking lots directly in front of T2. Car rentals are available in both parking lots, but the desk agent will tell you exactly where you need to go. Each company also has a cabin in the parking lot, so if you have any problems or questions about car rental, you should be able to find relevant staff.
AENA, which manages Malaga Airport, has a map of the location of the car rental desk and the way to the parking lot. You can download the map by clicking on the map of the location of your rental car at Malaga Airport.
